If you just heard "cancer," here's what we want you to know first.

A BCC diagnosis is scary — every diagnosis with "cancer" in it is. But here's the truth patients don't always hear clearly:

  • BCC almost never spreads to other parts of the body.
  • It's not the kind of skin cancer that becomes life-threatening.
  • With the right treatment, the cure rate is up to 99%.

You have time to make a thoughtful decision. You have options. Most of our patients walk in anxious and walk out thinking, "That was so much easier than I expected."

Why Patients Choose Dr. Patel for BCC Treatment

🏆

The gold standard for BCC

For most BCCs on the face, scalp, ears, or neck, Mohs has the highest cure rate (up to 99%), lowest recurrence rate, and best cosmetic outcome — the treatment most dermatologists recommend.

⏱️

One visit. One doctor.

Most patients leave with the cancer confirmed gone and the area closed. No waiting on pathology. No second appointment. No referral elsewhere.

🎓

Fellowship-trained specialist

Only a small percentage of dermatologists complete an ACMS fellowship (600+ supervised cases). Dr. Patel finished his at Mount Sinai — and has since performed over 4,000 cases.

🤝

Same-day reconstruction

If the area needs a repair, flap, or graft, Dr. Patel does it himself — same visit, same room. No handoff to a plastic surgeon.

What Happens From Here

No mystery. No pressure. Here's exactly what your experience will look like.

  1. 01

    Consultation

Dr. Patel reviews your biopsy, examines the area, and walks you through what he'd recommend and why.

  2. 02

    Procedure day

2–5 hours total. Local anesthesia. You'll be comfortable in our exam room during the microscope work between stages.

  3. 03

    Reconstruction

Same day, same doctor. Dr. Patel handles any repair needed.

  4. 04

    Follow-up

Regular skin checks after — BCC patients have a higher chance of developing more lesions, so staying monitored matters.

Common questions

Is basal cell carcinoma dangerous?
BCC is the most common form of skin cancer and almost never spreads to other parts of the body. But untreated, it can grow and cause significant local damage, especially on the face. The good news: with the right treatment, the cure rate is up to 99%.
Do I really need Mohs surgery, or is there a simpler option?
It depends. For a small, superficial BCC on the trunk or limbs, a simpler treatment (like topical cream or curettage) may be reasonable. For BCCs on the face, head, neck, larger tumors, or recurrent ones, Mohs has the highest cure rate and the best cosmetic outcome. Dr. Patel will talk you through the specific recommendation for your case.
What's the cure rate with Mohs for BCC?
Up to 99% for a new basal cell carcinoma and up to 94% for a recurrent one — the highest of any BCC treatment.
Will it come back?
Mohs has the lowest recurrence rate of any BCC treatment. But patients who develop one BCC have a higher chance of developing another somewhere else in the future, so we'll see you for regular skin checks after.
Will I have a noticeable scar?
Mohs removes the minimum amount of healthy tissue, which is the single biggest factor in how the final result looks. Dr. Patel does the reconstruction himself, and most scars fade significantly over 6–12 months.
Does insurance cover this?
Most insurance plans cover Mohs surgery for a diagnosed BCC. We'll verify your coverage before scheduling so there are no surprises.
How soon should I get treated?
BCCs grow slowly, so you have time to make a thoughtful decision. But sooner is generally better — smaller tumors are easier to treat with better cosmetic outcomes. Same-week appointments are often available.

You don't have to figure this out alone.
