We know what you're feeling right now.

If you just found out you have skin cancer on your nose, you're probably somewhere between scared and overwhelmed. A lot of our patients walk in thinking:

  • "How bad is this going to look when it's over?"
  • "I don't know how to pick the right surgeon — and this is my face."
  • "I just want someone who's done this a thousand times before."

Those feelings are completely normal. And here's what matters: there's a way to treat this with the highest possible cure rate and preserve how you look. With a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, the outcome is usually far better than patients fear going in.

Why Patients Choose Dr. Patel for Skin Cancer on the Nose

🎯

Highest cure rate available

Up to 99% for new basal cell carcinoma. Each tissue layer is examined under a microscope in our on-site lab before we close — so you leave knowing the cancer is gone.

🔬

Minimal tissue removed

On the nose, every millimeter matters. Mohs removes one thin layer at a time and only goes deeper if cancer cells remain — significantly less healthy tissue than traditional excision.

🤝

Same-day reconstruction

Dr. Patel is fellowship-trained in both cancer removal and reconstruction. He does the repair himself, same day, same room. No handoff. No second appointment.

🎓

Fellowship-trained — not just "Mohs-trained"

Only a small percentage of dermatologists complete an ACMS fellowship (600+ supervised cases required). Dr. Patel finished his at Mount Sinai — and has since done over 4,000 cases.

What Your Visit Will Actually Look Like

Straightforward, step by step — no surprises.

  1. 01

    Consultation

Dr. Patel examines the area, walks you through what he's seeing, and answers every question you have.

  2. 02

    Procedure day

Local anesthesia. One thin layer removed at a time, each checked under the microscope. Usually 2–5 hours total — bring a book.

  3. 03

    Reconstruction

Same day, same doctor. Dr. Patel matches the technique to your specific case so the area heals as naturally as possible.

  4. 04

    Recovery

Most people return to normal activities within a week. Scar fading continues over the following 6–12 months.

Common questions

Will I have a big scar on my nose?
It's the #1 question we hear, and the honest answer is: the scar is usually much smaller than patients expect. Mohs removes the minimum amount of healthy tissue, which is the single biggest factor in how the final result looks. Dr. Patel does the reconstruction himself using techniques matched to your nose specifically, and most scars fade significantly over 6–12 months.
How long will I be in the office?
Plan for 2–5 hours on procedure day. Most of that is the microscope work happening between each tissue layer — you'll be comfortable in our exam room during it. Feel free to bring someone with you, or something to read.
Is Mohs surgery painful?
The area is numbed with local anesthesia before anything starts. You'll feel the initial injection; after that, the area should be fully numb. Most patients describe the recovery as mild soreness for a few days, manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers.
What's the cure rate for Mohs on the nose?
Up to 99% for a new basal cell carcinoma and 95–99% for a new squamous cell carcinoma. Mohs has the highest cure rate of any skin cancer treatment because the surgeon confirms clear margins during the procedure itself — not days later in a pathology report.
Will I need a plastic surgeon for the reconstruction too?
No. Dr. Patel is fellowship-trained in both Mohs surgery and reconstructive repair. He'll perform the reconstruction same day, in the same office. You won't be referred anywhere else.
Does insurance cover Mohs surgery?
Most insurance plans cover Mohs surgery when a dermatologist has recommended it for a diagnosed skin cancer. We accept most insurance and will verify your coverage before your procedure so there are no surprises.
How do I know if Dr. Patel is the right surgeon for me?
Three things to look for in any Mohs surgeon: (1) fellowship-trained through the American College of Mohs Surgery (Dr. Patel: ✓), (2) high case volume — ideally in the thousands (Dr. Patel: 4,000+), (3) able to do the reconstruction personally, same day (Dr. Patel: ✓). The best way to know for sure is to come in and meet him.

You don't have to make this decision alone.

Come meet Dr. Patel. Ask him anything. There's no obligation — just a real conversation with someone who has helped thousands of people in exactly your situation.
